During your first year you will be entering schools on a regular basis and completing a month-long field experience. Our task is to prepare you for the world of professional teaching long before you arrive at your first teaching assignment. Therefore, all professors will include in their courses an assessment of your demonstration of professional attributes. Professional attributes include adherence to the professional code of conduct and professional demeanor (appearance, relationships with student colleagues, instructors, cooperating teachers, principals, schools, and Concordia University College of Alberta).
Please note the following as suggested guidelines:
- Attend regularly and on time.
- Dress appropriately.
- Always communicate with respect and dignity.
- Be friendly and cooperative.
- Make positive contributions to class and program.
- Be ethical in your comments and remarks particularly with respect to schools, teachers, instructors and students in your practicum placement as well as in the college itself.
- Conduct yourself appropriately in the classroom hallways and other venues.
- If you have a problem or concern, go directly to the person(s) involved and share your concern.
- If you are not satisfied with the conclusion, inform the person or persons that you will be communicating your concerns to a higher level.
- Do not neglect the first step of this process.
- Enjoy your time in this teacher preparation program.
