Quality Not Quantity
Our program is designed to prepare quality teachers. Several of our graduates have won prestigious teaching awards and accolades during their classroom careers. High standards begin with a selective admission process that considers academic achievement, proven ability to work with children, and the personal qualities of integrity, commitment, and professionalism. Admission into the program is competitive. Apply early.
Our courses include special emphases on program planning, teaching strategies, classroom management, assessment, and the infusion of technology into teaching and learning.
Real Schools, Real Experiences
Field experiences in schools are an integral part of each semester. Concordia has a strong reputation in the educational community, and we enjoy enthusiastic support from our partner schools. Our student teachers are guided in their field work by mentors and facilitators who possess a wide range of successful experiences in Alberta schools.
A unique feature of our program is the Initiation to Teaching Program, a voluntary experience in the classroom that is available to our graduates in May and June.
Professors Who Teach
Our program is known for excellence in teaching. All professors and sessional instructors have very successful classroom teaching experience. Our innovative teaching methods include modeling current instructional and assessment strategies, and opportunities for hands-on learning and application of theory to practice.
Academic and pedagogical excellence are conrnerstones of our program. All full time faculty are actively engaged in scholarly research and writing.
Graduates Get Hired
Historically, a high percentage of graduates are hired into teaching positions following convocation. The reputation of the program and the quality teaching of our past graduates have contributed to this success.
Class Size Matters
Class sizes are small. This enables our professors and instructors to work with students at a more personal level. Smaller class sizes also translate into a variety of learning opportunities - individual, pairs, small groups, labs, and seminars. Further to this, we are proud of our record in being able to meet our students' individual needs.
